I had a dream last night that I spent an exciting day at a festival and was an eye witness to a huge building fire where heroic rescues were captured moment-to-moment by me with amazing timing and photojournalist skills! Then at the end of this exhilarating photo frenzy, I realized I had forgotten to put my memory card back in my camera. Aaaarg! Brutal. Ever had that moment?
In real life, I don't go on a trip without checking my trusty packing check list. Even though I've gotten pretty savvy about packing, I always take this last step. When we're tired, we can forget things that are so obvious (as I write this, I get a visual of my camera battery charger green light shining like a nightlight still plugged into my wall).
Once when we were leaving Florida after the BetterPhoto Summit, I got all packed up, switched off the light to my hotel room, hopped in a taxi and not until I was on the moving walkway at the airport chatting with Jim did I realize I wasn't pulling my usual weight on wheels. I got that horrible prickly feeling when I realized I had just checked my carry-on suitcase (complete with my laptop and camera) and my bag that never got checked in was waiting like a patient soldier just inside my hotel room door.
